Individual Tax Return Checklist

Everything you need to gather before your personal tax appointment — W-2s, 1099s, deductions, and more.

  • Social Security numbers for you, spouse, and dependents
  • W-2 forms from all employers
  • 1099 forms (interest, dividends, freelance, retirement)
  • Last year's tax return (if new client)
  • Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
  • Property tax statements
  • Charitable donation receipts
  • Medical expense records
  • Student loan interest (Form 1098-E)
  • Childcare provider name, address, and EIN/SSN

  • Last 2–3 years of personal and/or business tax returns
  • Current year income documents received so far
  • Business formation documents (LLC, S-Corp, etc.)
  • EIN confirmation letter (if business)
  • Current bookkeeping files or QuickBooks access
